ABOUT ARCXIS BIOTECHNOLOGIES
Background
Arcxis Biotechnologies was formed to create, develop and distribute the next generation Molecular Diagnostic products. In particular Arcxis's IP protected technologies are designed for the preparation of life science samples and subsequent Nucleic Acid detection by integrating the sample preparation workflows. Our innovative products deliver to research, clinical and diagnostic laboratories an easier, faster more reliable and cost effective set of solutions.
Arcxis Biotechnologies is a California-based (San Francisco Bay Area) firm incorporated in November of 2004. The company is located in facilities totaling 5,200 sq foot facility at the Koll Business Park, in Pleasanton, CA USA.
Arcxis Management Team
Christine Meda, President & CEO
Ms. Meda brings to Arcxis 20 years of leadership in the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries. Her management responsibilities have included the commercialization of more than 30 products for various disease areas at Hoffman-LaRoche, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Diagnostics Products Corporation (now Siemens), Meridian Diagnostics and Schering AG pharmaceuticals. Most recently, Ms. Meda was President and COO at Diamics, Inc a start-up with focus on a cervical cancer medical device. Diamics was sold to Inverness Medical Innovations in July, 2007. Prior to Diamics, Chris was Vice President at Roche Molecular Diagnostics for the Global Women’s Health Portfolio and subsequently became Vice President of Business Development. Her principle duties involved the commercialization of PCR-based diagnostics for Human Papillomavirus, Chlamydia, Herpes Simplex Virus and Group B Streptococcus.
Ms. Meda studied for her M.Sc. degree at Michigan State University, USA and received a B.Sc. from SUNY @ Potsdam, USA.
Howard D. Goldstein, Chief Commercial Officer
Mr. Goldstein comes to Arcxis Biotechnologies with more than 25 years experience in creating and managing life sciences product organizations. He has been responsible for building and directing marketing, engineering & sales teams that have created more than 10 key product categories in the research marketplace, beginning his career with LKB Instruments and then at senior level positions at Molecular Devices Corporation, Molecular Dynamics, Inc., and Applied Biosystems, Inc. Mr. Goldstein was founder, president and CEO of the eBioinformatics unit of Entigen Corporation, senior vice president at the Synteni Corporation and when subsequently acquired by Incyte Genomics, became senior vice president at Incyte where he oversaw global sales and marketing of all products and services. Immediately before joining Arcxis Biotechnologies, Mr. Goldstein served as Senior Vice President for Amnis Corporation and Managing Partner of Practical Marketing & Sales, a marketing and sales consultation company.
Mr. Goldstein received an M.B.A. in Organization & Management from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, an M.Sc. in Biochemistry form University of Dayton and a B.Sc. in Biology from Bucknell University.
Ezra Van Gelder, Head of Product Development
Mr. Van Gelder has over fifteen years experience managing R&D organizations in the Biotechnology and semi conductor equipment industries. He directed the successful development of instruments and reagents for DNA and Cell analysis at Molecular Dynamics, Amersham and GE Healthcare. Managed and participated in the development of fully automated equipment for optical inspection of semiconductor components and wafers at KLA-Tencor.
Mr. Van Gelder received his B. Sc. In Mechanical Engineering from Tel Aviv University, Israel, and M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from Santa Clara University, USA.
Jay West, Senior Director of Research & co-founder
Prior to co-founding Arcxis, Dr. West served as Senior Staff Member at Sandia National Laboratories where he led the research and development teams on an advanced concept microfluidics and microarray chips, concluding in publications and the filing of intellectual property. This technology is at the core for commercialization by Arcxis Biotechnologies for the rapid screening of pathogens and infectious diseases. In addition, Dr. West developed collaborations with multiple institutions, including USAMRIID, for the development and testing of sensor platforms for the detection of live pathogens.
Dr. West received his B.Sc. in Toxicology and Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of California, Davis, USA.
Jesse B. Thompson, Senior Director of Manufacturing
Mr. Thompson brings to Arcxis Biotechnologies more than 35 years of manufacturing experience working for 12 years for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he received several patents for his work which were licensed to the private sector. Mr. Thompson then worked for Shimadzu, being responsible for the Vacuum Technology Division where he created an international world service network with offices in Japan, United States, Europe, and Australia. After Shimadzu, Mr. Thompson worked for Tessera, Inc. an IP company of IC packaging technology where he developed a process for the manufacturing of Tessera's "Fold Over". Before joining Arcxis, he served as Director of Manufacturing for Ultracell, Inc. a manufacturer of micro-fuel cells.
Mr. Thompson earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Southern Colorado, USA.
Steven R. Nelson, Senior Director of Business Development
Mr. Nelson brings to Arcxis Biotechnologies over 25 years of marketing experience, sales and business development in the Life Science industry. He was previously Vice President of Business Development at Argonaut Technologies Inc. and at Entigen Corporation, where he led collaborative development with major pharmaceutical partners, technology licensing, contract negotiations, channel development and corporate M&A activities. Mr. Nelson also held senior level positions in marketing, sales and business development for Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, Molecular Dynamics and Quantex Corporation. Prior to entering the Life Science industry, he spent his early career as a practicing engineer and project manager for Quadrex Corporation, GE Calma and Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
Mr. Nelson received a BS in Electrical Engineering/Ocean Engineering from Long Beach State University, USA.
